Neil Bousfield talks about Space, Place and the Construct of Home

Feeling at home in a place is not an uncommon way to think or to be.

We express attachment and a sense of rootedness or wholeness often associated with a particular known landscape space. We can experience a sense of belonging in a known place; however, we can also experience alienation, outsider-ness, or a lack of attachment within a space we occupy.

There is no doubt we can collectively experience the same space within a spectrum of states of existence. How does one become the other? What actions, activities and processes can be implemented in order to transform space to place, create the construct of home and enhance attachment, identity and an understanding of home, place and belonging.

Over recent years the artist has engaged within the creation of a body of drawn and printed work with the explicit objective of attaching oneself to a place. Here the artist will examine the context around the work, its creation, meaning and the methods, ideas, concepts and processes inherent within the use of an art practice in the creation of place and home.
