Anna Perlin

Perlin Anna CreepingVirginiaAnna Perlin is an established artist and printmaker, creating her distinctive work from her Hertfordshire studio. Inspired by the environment around her, the British landscape and people and places she visits are continuing themes in her work. Graduating in Textile design and marketing in 2001, Anna initially worked in the retail world before realising that she did not want to regret not taking her passion for art further. She has been a full time artist ever since and her work has been exhibited widely, including at the Mall Galleries.

Initially working with oils, Anna started experimenting with different types of printmaking 5 years ago, and carborundum – a type of collagraph, has emerged as her favourite which she uses to create most of her distinctive work. Carborundum is the ‘grit’ used to make sandpaper and by mixing it in a variety of ratios with glue and painting it onto a printing plate which is then inked up intaglio, tonal ranges can be created producing a relatively painterly print. Colour is added during printing with chine collé (collage) or after printing with pastel or watercolour. Although the printing plate can be used many times, Anna makes a maximum of 10 prints and experiments with the colours and chine collé so that every print is fairly unique.
