In 2000 I retired early from a career teaching English to concentrate on Art, taking weekly classes in Life Drawing and Oil painting at Insight School of Art New Barnet which culminated in a year's intensive full-time course in 2011.Since then I have undertaken commissions and exhibited regularly, most recently with NLAN at The Strand Gallery WC2 in November.
Since January 2015 Printmaking (at Artshed Ware) has become my main focus and I exhibited in Printmaking Unwrapped at the Avondale gallery N12 in December. The subject matter of many prints derives from years of life-drawing and an interest in Dance. I show figures in lively motion or held moments of poise, sometimes dwelling on the tension between the two. I enjoy the great variety of techniques that printmaking offers to explore these interests, and the very different kinds of mark-making that lino-cutting, drypoint, monoprinting, silkscreen and polymer plate can achieve. I enjoy combining 2 or more techniques to layer images, and experiment with different ways of inking and wiping plates. I move between naturalistic and more abstract representations of human forms and like juxtaposing images of different scales.. I see printmaking as an ongoing process of learning and experimentation.
