Celia Hart hand burnished linocut demonstration
Celia works without a press, producing hand burnished linocuts and woodcuts printed onto Japanese papers. Her original prints are exhibited in galleries across the UK including Cambridge Contemporary Art. She also work for publishers and design companies supplying images for book covers and product labels, for such commissions she often combine an original print with digital work.
Since April 2015 she has illustrated Frank Ronan’s monthly column for Gardens Illustrated magazine with a single colour linocut inspired by his words. She enjoys the challenge of working in a single colour, using the negative and positive shapes and the marks of the chisels to create texture, depth and variety in the composition.
Celia will be demonstrating the methods she uses to carve the lino block and hand-burnish the image onto Japanese paper during the exhibition on Monday 26 September at 2.30pm. Demonstrations are free and will be held in the back area of the exhibition.
